The Hunt to Identify a City of Yore

Oct 24, 2020

My buddy Daniel Spils found an old aerial photo of Seattle and posted it for the hive mind to try to figure out when it might have been taken. I started to identify some streets and landmarks to try to narrow down when it was shot, and here’s what I was able to identify. We narrowed its origin down to between 1929 and 1950, with our best guess being that it was taken during a 1937 survey.

Every building labeled is still standing, except for Gethsame Church (which has a modern rebuild on the same spot), the Music Hall Theatre (demolished in 1992) and the Orpheum Theatre (demolished in 1967).
